The Seven Ages of the Guitar. Tuesday 27th July 2010 11.30
The Seven Ages of the Guitar.
Performed by Dean Carter
Drawing on 500 years of musical history, The Seven Ages of the Guitar is a performance package outlining the history and varying styles of the guitar through the ages, from Bach to the Beatles, Renaissance dances to works of the great Romantic composers for the guitar such as Sor and Carcassi. Dean performs music from every age and style in the Western tradition, including composers such as Mozart, Handel, Purcell, and Satie, to name but a few….plus the great contributions of folk and popular styles.
Dean’s own arrangements often feature extended improvised sections, so as well as appealing to all tastes and covering some of the most well-known music for the guitar such as ‘Romanze’ and ‘Cavatina’, and adaptations of folk melodies such as ‘Malagueña’ and ‘Scarborough Fair’, every performance of ‘The Seven Ages of the Guitar’ is a unique musical experience.
Dean’s musical career through the 90’s as a guitarist-singer-songwriter-composer, with 4 critically acclaimed album releases to his name, came to a halt at the onset of the millennium with the onset of CFS. Knowing severe and debilitating illness from the inside, unable to play or even listen to music for many years, let alone attend concerts or have any kind of normal social life, with his recovery Dean has vowed to take music into places where people can no longer ‘go out’ to enjoy its benefits and healing and uplifting effect, such as sheltered homes, hospitals and hospices.
